2001 - Salt Lake City

Stayed at: Hotel on the Highway. Once again, proving that Utah has great skiing, but mediocre accomodations.

Conditions:

Day 1 - Sunny, some powder at Alta
Day 2 - 6" powder, sun at Snowbird. Ski Mineral Basin.
Day 3 - Crusty day at The Canyons
Day 4 - Returned early to due "March Lion" storm in Boston

This was the year of many firsts, and hopefully lasts. Our trip was delayed three weeks due to a Fink work obligation, which became a non-event after the flights/condo had been changed. Then they got 2 feet of snow when we WOULD have been there (yes - Fink bought us dinner to repay us). In Utah, our Condo turned out to be a house on a 6 lane busy road, thus it was dubbed the hotel by the highway. It did have a nice private hot tub, but we missed the ski camadarie of sharing ski conditions. We had our least ever memorable meal at some very bad mexican restaurant. It cost less than a ski hill lunch (!!), but reminded of us the early days when Sizzler was a deluxe meal. We did have a great 2nd day - powder and sun, a first for us. Then an overhyped northeastern storm, the lack of cheap accomodations and Jon's need to be back by Wednesday led us (except Fink) to come home one day early. Our flight the next day was cancelled, and we wouldn't have made it back, but the first day of the storm was not a big deal. Typical. No pictures this year...
